A School Bus Driver interacts daily with children and serves as their trusted transportation to and from school. As such, a School Bus Driver should be free of any traffic or criminal violations, pass a drug test and should have an authoritative, yet calming demeanor and a strong understanding of traffic laws. Along with excellent driving skills, communication, reasoning, problem solving and patience are among the key attributes of a successful student transportation professional. Training is provide for both CDL and non CDL positions.

General duties of the School Bus Driver may include the following:

• Transport children to and from school and school trips
• Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment
• Obey all traffic laws
• Assist in the maintenance of a clean and mechanically sound vehicle
• Ensure the safety of all riders
• Communicate with riders, parents, and school officials
• Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
• Attend safety meetings as required
• Complete required paperwork
• CDL with School and Passenger endorsement required for some vehicles
